RECAP Food Pantry
is in dire need of volunteers for the
Thanksgiving sign up and giveaway.     
Work is being done now to coordinate
giving 500+ turkeys and the trimmings.    
The Food Pantry can also use help

Hudson House
is a psychosocial clubhouse program,
which focuses on socialization,
recreation, education, and employment
of individual's with mental illnesses.  
Volunteer functions include but are not
limited to helping to prepare lunches,
assisting with craft projects, reading
books to members, helping in thrift
store, and chaperoning field trips.  
Interns are also welcome in the fall
and spring semesters. Interns shadow
Hudson House staff and are included
in all aspects of the daily work routine.  
This includes case management, job
coaching/development, and all
scheduled daily program activities.

Available 24 hours a day as a crisis
intervention, information and referral
telephone service that is anonymous
and confidential. Volunteers undergo
training in a myriad of personal, emotional
and social issues.  Volunteer shifts are
flexible, with at-home or in-office
schedules available.  Whether a caller
is in need of a referral to a self-help
group, private practitioner or agency, or
whether a person just needs to talk,
Helpline is there to assist people in

Young Adult Social Club
provides social and recreational
opportunities for young adults ages 18
and older, who have developmental
disabilities and live with their family in
Orange County.  The club meets once a
month for 2-3 hours. A volunteer will
assist with supervision, help us with craft
projects, going to the movies, dances, etc.

Independent Living, Inc
has many available internship opportunities in
various programs at Independent Living such
as the Drop In Center, a safe haven for
individual's with mental illness. The Drop In
provides needed socialization and recreational
activities. Individuals can use computers, TV
with vcr, laundry facilities and many
opportunities for peer support and advocacy,
activities, games, and special events in the
community.
As a non-profit organization, Independent
Living offers core disability & advocacy  
related services that are critically important to
fostering motivation, independence, self-
direction, employment, social integration,
community participation and the elimination of
attitudinal, physical, and systemic barriers.

We offer a day habilitation program for
persons with developmental disabilities (CIP);
a Saturday activity/respite services (SAP)
and an after school learning enrichment
program (LEAP) for students with
developmental disabilities.

We also offer an array of transition support
services that assist students in crossing the
bridge from school to adult life. The program's
staff engage students attending local schools
(NFA and Orange Ulster BOCES) in a whole
life planning process that includes counseling
and training to help clarify and organize
personal interests and to address
individual needs related to family, skills,
behavior and community.

We offer Bridger Services- Helping individuals
with psychiatric disabilities to build and rebuild
supportive community linkages following
discharge from hospitals, jails and other
facilities. Ensuring that the transition to
independence Self-Help Services--Facilitating
participation in Double Trouble in Recovery
(DTR) and other self-help meetings throughout
Orange County.

Facilitating personal empowerment by
providing the tools and technical support to
enable consumers to organize groups and
conduct meetings.

Providing training in Wellness and Recovery
Action Planning (WRAP), Integral Qigong and
Tai Chi.

The Community Partnership for Persons with
Psychiatric & Co-occurring Addictive
Disabilities (MICA) Aiding in the prevention of
homelessness for persons having
co-occurring psychiatric and addictive
disabilities.

Offering wrap-around support, including core
independent living services, in neighborhoods
and communities having the greatest need.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services:  Serving
as a  bridge between the Deaf and hearing
cultures in 4-counties, this program is
dedicated to providing community outreach
and education, advocacy, service
coordination, counseling and technical
support.  

Benefits, Planning Assistance and Outreach:  
Serving 13 Hudson Valley counties, BPAO
provides services aimed at strengthening the
confidence of SSI and SSA beneficiaries in
taking full advantage of available work
incentives.

Early Childhood Direction Center providing
information to help families, schools, day care
centers, parents and professionals concerned
about the growth and development of children
from birth to 5 years of age living in Orange,
Sullivan, Dutchess and Ulster Counties.

Interns are welcome in the spring and fall
semesters in most programs of Independent
Living. Interns shadow Independent Living staff
and are included in the daily work routine.

Rape Crisis Service
Available 24 hours a day, volunteer
advocates are trained to accompany
sexual assault survivors to the hospital
emergency rooms, police stations and
courthouses.  Advocates attend to the
needs of the survivor, intervening with
the service providers when necessary,
as well as answer to the questions or
concerns of co-survivors who may be
with him/her. This program created the
supportive link between survivor and the
other community professional that serves
to ensure positive interactions through the
treatment and reporting process.
